Archaeology of a Failed Publication
In response to the uprising in Prague in 1968 – the so-called Prague Spring – the CSSR security apparatus created a special unit whose task it was to violently suppress any new uprisings. The unit was finally established in 1970.
The twentieth anniversary of this unit was to be marked by an extensive photo book that depicted different aspects of the life within. A lot of work went into the preparation for this book, but oddly enough, the revolution of 1989 swept away not only the communist system, but also the security apparatus, including the special unit. So created out of a failed revolution, with the task to foil any other attempt, the unit was brought down by the very thing it was supposed to prevent.
So the publication was never finalized and only parts of the material still exist.
